Colcrete Eurodrill equipment is being used by Ritchies, the ground engineering division of Edmund Nuttall, on their project in Gibraltar to decommission the east side water catchments and stabilize the sandy slope for client, Defence Estates. The hillside was covered with 130,000 m2 of corrugated iron in order to catch the rainwater, butthis method became redundant with the construction of a desalination plant. The project involves removal of the corrugated iron, and stabilization of the slope, with the eventual reinstatement of the natural flora and fauna.

A total of 8,200 soil nails are required to do the job, and eight special small drilling machines that could work on the slope were designed and brought in. The rigs are designed to operate on the 34° slope, and below
the rig on a deck are mounted the power pack and grout batching plant.

That's where Colcrete Eurodrill came in. As the mixers and pumps had to be mounted on the rigs and are powered hydraulically from the rig, there were limitations regarding size and performance requirements too.
In order to achieve this, there were discussions and amendments to the standard equipment to attain what the client needed. Colcrete Eurodrill colloidal mixers and progressive cavity grout pumps filled the need.

Project Manager for Ritchies, Stuart Dunn told us that Colcrete Eurodrill products were selected because of the good track record of the equipment.
